ALL ABOUT
WAGTAIL PRODUCTIONS
We're creative wedding videographers and photographers who believe in capturing the raw emotions of your special moments, creating memories that resonate deeply with our clients, and bringing a dash of unexpected joy to every project.
Welcome to our virtual "backstage pass" to the art of visual storytelling.
AS MODERN WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHERS,
Our mission is to capture your day discreetly and authentically so you can relive the genuine emotions and undisturbed events of your wedding.
Do you want to feel like: “How am I seeing all of this but no one looks like they noticed anyone filming?” That's exactly how you'll feel when you watch your wedding film, rediscovering beautiful moments you didn’t realise were caught on camera.
We understand camera language, which means you will always look comfortable in your film, never awkward or staged.
Have you ever watched a wedding film and felt slightly uncomfortable? Perhaps it’s oddly placed wedding rings on shoes, a wedding dress hanging up outside, or a couple in their video that looks like they are posing for a photographer. Instead of this overproduced style, we aim to immerse you in the authentic narrative of the film.
Because wedding videography is not about directing or staging scenes, it's all about capturing the spontaneity and spirit of the day.
KIND WORDS
“Ayla was discreet and lovely. I don't think our guests even noticed the day being filmed, but they certainly loved the results.
She was a pleasure to work with; watching our wedding film feels incredible. It's not just a chronology of the day, it's a piece of art which captures all the details and all the key love.”

WE’RE ALL ABOUT
AUTHENTICITY
We believe in capturing the essence of each moment as it naturally unfolds. Our work ensures that every photograph and film reflects the true, unscripted reality of your wedding day, family bond or brand identity, preserving its genuine character and unique nuances.
EMOTION
We focus on the subtle yet powerful expressions of emotion. Our aim is to resonate on a deeper level, creating a lasting impact by encapsulating the joy, love, and passion inherent in your most cherished moments.
UNOBTRUSIVE STORYTELLING
We pride ourselves on our ability to document your day without interfering, maintaining a low profile while adeptly capturing the full narrative. This allows us to produce a film or photo series that feels intimate and authentic.
So, we're wedding filmmakers... but our past couples would describe us as 'storytellers', capturing the moments they didn’t even see, focusing on all the little details, and creating films that are not just videos but pieces of art that truly reflect you.
MEET AYLA
Creative Wedding Filmmaker, aka The Chief Wagtail
Hi, I'm Ayla, pronounced like the name Isla and phonetically "eye-la." I come from a background rich in art, from formal art courses to pottery, to gardening. I have always been obsessed with taking photographs - even as a child, I documented our lives at home.
I started studying photography and using a dark room at 15 years old, continuing right through to degree level. I’ll do you the service of not listing all my qualifications (but you can read more here if you’re looking for a cure for insomnia).
Before founding Wagtail Productions, I worked in the camera team on music videos, TV, and feature films, before realising I wanted to film something more real and intimate. After all, it was the act of capturing family life that first inspired me to take up photography. The important thing to know is since I first started creating images—literally in the last century—I've amassed a kind of experience that isn’t that common in my line of work.
You might think it's unnecessary to choose a photographer or videographer just because they've worked on projects like Skyfall or filmed a promo with Kate Moss (woah, do I really think shameless name-drops will get you interested? Gross). But in all seriousness, here’s what that experience means when you work with me:
I’m used to tiptoeing around actors on set, as was expected of me, which has given me an unofficial master's in discretion. I was taught the critical importance of not disrupting an actor’s eyeline - do not be the reason they look off camera and “cut” is yelled.
I've often been told by couples that they didn't even notice me filming on the day. So if you are stumbling over your vows, it won’t be because you noticed me in the corner. I’ll ensure your film will feel intimate without intrusion.
CRAFTING CINEMATIC WEDDING FILMS WITH CARE AND FORWARD THINKING
I’m always thinking about the final edit, specifically tailored to each couple and how the shots will go together. For example, I once worked with a couple who used a vintage convertible that belonged to the bride’s late father. The expectation was that I would film them driving away from the church in it. However, with a bit of forward planning, I believed I could make the sequence more cinematic, as a feature film would have. Therefore, I filmed them being waved off by their guests, then a groomsman provided me a quick get-away car so I could get footage driving behind them on the sunny country roads, then (safely) overtook to get some shots looking back at them and see their faces, and finally hopped in the back seat of the couple’s car to film from inside the car. This then tied in beautifully with the speeches, as they mentioned the bride's father and his hopes for her wedding day. See this film here

It's essential for me that every wedding film feels deeply personal to each couple, and one of the feedbacks I consistently strive for is that the film feels very true to my clients.

Fun Fact: In 2016, Ayla’s knack for capturing compelling moments caught the attention of the BBC Director Francis Whately on the day David Bowie died. As a result, Ayla's footage of Brixton streets aired on BBC2 as the opening and closing scenes of the documentary 'David Bowie: The Last Five Years'.
