A Fairytale Winter Wedding at Hampton Court Castle

A Magical Winter Wedding

Sarah truly looked like a medieval princess running around the long castle corridors. Michael looked somewhat more modern in a suit (sadly, not in armour), but if you ask me, his hair had a hint of a medieval prince. Although we really wanted to lean into the theme, going full fairytale in the opening titles of the full video, I remained conscious that there’s a limit to how much castle décor can fit into a wedding video before mounted helmets and taxidermy start to intimidate. I really enjoy pivoting my videography approach to suit each individual couple. 

When I saw the maze, I just knew we had to get them in there, running around to find each other while filming it from above. The challenge was that I needed to be out of shot for this, yet I felt a strong sense that it’s taboo to completely lose the bride and groom in a maze on their wedding day. Sarah and Michael were game for it though, and we had the best time outside before warming up in front of a grand roaring fireplace.

Upon receiving their wedding film, I received the following message from them: “Ayla!!!!! We watched the video!!! It’s so good!!!! We were crying in bed while watching last night. Thank you so much!! We are ecstatic!!! My Grandma was obsessed with the trailer wait till she sees the whole thing! I just sent the link to my parents and they are so excited, they said it’s so beautiful. I’m so happy that you’ve enjoyed working on it too- that day was so fun and running around with you outside and through the castle was just so fun. I’m so excited to relive these memories.”

And “thank you again for everything that day! Your calming words when I was anxiously getting ready. We had such a wonderful experience. Our final payments and thank yous have been borderline emotional. It was a dream to work with someone as talented as you thank you for making our dreams come true!”
