Outdoor Mountain Wedding in Verbier, Switzerland

Lily & David - Chez Dany, Verbier, Switzerland - Wedding Videography

Of course, a destination wedding in a place as breathtaking as Switzerland, demands shots of the spectacular mountain ranges, but what made this Switzerland destination wedding videography particularly unique is that it’s the couple’s home. Filming with Lily and David on the very slopes where they met, was storytelling harmony. As Lily beautifully puts it, “home is in the mountains, where you are”. I was able to go full drama here and make Lily’s vision of being in her big dress on the hillside, a reality.

Crafting a Storytelling Wedding Videography in the Swiss Mountains

Lily is the most elegant runner in a wedding dress—or runner period—that I’ve ever seen. She takes everything in her stride, and David’s admiration for that is very apparent in his beautiful words. Perfectly matched, they seem to be the only two who can keep up with each other, in life and on the ski slopes.

The aforementioned shot is the star of the film, but a very close second is a much smaller moment. It’s when Lily and David are under the chuppah, with one hand each, holding the shawl over their heads. Can something be small yet mighty? It’s an almost private moment, hidden from guests, and Lily releases her hold from David’s hand to tenderly wipe away David’s tear with the back of her hand. When I rediscovered this moment in the edit, I felt their synchronicity. It was so natural as if she was wiping it from her own cheek. If I can capture both the big moments and the understated moments, I know I’ve created something that will be watched over and over for many years.

I filmed this Switzerland wedding alone, although it doesn’t appear that way, given the multiple camera angles. David owns a videography company himself, so I endeavoured to meet his high standards. By the end of the day, I felt like no stone was left unturned, the factitious win. I did, admittedly, get the car a little stuck down a tiny mountain road on my way to the ceremony, with no phone reception, but I had decided, in the interest of risk reduction, to arrive an hour and a half early to the ceremony venue because… the factitious win. When David told me just before the ceremony began that he’d taken off his microphone and forgot to bring it back up the mountain, I had spares to hand, and his vows were recorded… the factitious win.

Upon receiving their film, they said:

“We wanted to express our heartfelt thanks for the incredible work you’ve done on the edit. Lily was in tears just a few seconds in, and I can honestly say I’m absolutely in love with it. You’ve done such a masterful job capturing the essence of such a long day and weaving it into your own beautifully told story. Truly, well done. We can’t thank you enough for creating this beautiful piece—we genuinely love it.”
